Today's Devotion
"This is a true saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him. If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us. If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself" (2 Timothy 2:11-13).

Today's passage reflects on the hope those have who suffer or die for Jesus. This is the martyr's hope. If we share the cross of Christ, we will also share His crown. Without the cross there is no crown.

Tertullian, one of the early church leaders, said, "The man who is afraid to suffer cannot belong to him who suffered." (Tertullian: de Fuga, 14, cited by William Barclay, 2 Timothy, p. 170)

Jesus promises that if we share His disgrace, we will also share His glory. "If we endure, we shall also reign with Him" (verse12). If we "endure," which means "to persevere, to hang in there," we will reign with Jesus during His thousand year kingdom on earth!

Today's ScriptShare
"Day by day the LORD takes care of the innocent, and they will receive an inheritance that lasts forever. They will not be disgraced in hard times; even in famine they will have more than enough" (Psalm 37:18-19).
The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.
