Today's Devotion
"...If you continue in My Word, then are you My disciples" (John 8:31b, NASB).

People are into so many things that they hope will change them but don't work. The only thing that has been proven to change lives is the power of the Book. But it's sad that so many of God's people don't believe it.

A few years ago I read a poll that revealed of the 662 people interviewed, 93% said they owned at least one Bible. But of those, only 55% said they read their Bible. And of those who said they read, only 25% said they did so everyday.

Why is this? I think it's because people don't really understand the power the Word of God has to change their lives!

Maybe we aren't really all that convinced that God's Word is all that Powerful! But Jesus says that being in the Word is not an optional thing for a Christian. He said, "...If you continue in My Word, then are you My disciples." If you and I want to truly be a disciple of Jesus Christ, we MUST continue in the Word.

Start to read the Bible today. Begin with the Gospel of John and read it in a translation that is clear and easy to understand. I think you would enjoy the English Standard Version, which is a new literal, word-for-word translation. Another translation that I use almost every day (and we use in Grace Mail) is the New Living Translation; I find it a delight to read from.

"Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law. After all, is God the God of the Jews only? Isn’t he also the God of the Gentiles? Of course he is. There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law" (Romans 3:27-31).
The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.
